Ask about Asthma – helping children breathe easier

Posted on:

Asthma affects many children and young people — but with the right support, it can be well managed.

The Ask About Asthma campaign encourages families to take four simple steps that can make a big difference to a child’s health and wellbeing:

  1. Have a personalised asthma action plan
This helps you understand what to do when symptoms change or worsen.
  2. Check inhaler technique
Using inhalers correctly ensures the medicine works as it should.
  3. Book regular asthma reviews
These should happen at least once a year and after every asthma attack.
  4. Be aware of air quality and triggers
Environmental factors like pollution or pollen can affect asthma symptoms.

These steps are especially important during the autumn term, when asthma symptoms often flare up after the return to school – known as the September Spike.

If your child has asthma and you’d like support or are due a review, please contact the practice to book an appointment with one of our Asthma nurses.
